Under general supervision, performs specialized skilled work in pavement marking installation and maintenance. Work involves leading a team to maintain all pavement markings throughout the city as the primary function and performing maintenance on equipment. Work also involves prelining new pavement work. Employee must exercise independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks. Reports to the Paint Supervisor.

- Drive long line paint truck in operation
- Inspect crew members installation of paint and thermoplastic material
- Preline for new pavement markings
- Train others in the use of various types of pavement marking equipment.
- Performs operational tests and inspections of facility systems and components
- Inspects and repairs pavement marking equipment; performs maintenance; reports malfunctions to supervisor.
- Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including vehicle maintenance reports, job preline drawings, and SDS forms.
- Prepares and/or processes various records and reports including activity reports and equipment checklists.
- Uses mathematical ability to handle required calculations.
- Refers to equipment maintenance manual, SDS forms, MUTCD, WAPM, employee handbook, traffic marking plans, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
- Uses a variety of tools such as calibration tools, distance measuring equipment, hand and mechanic tools, mobile communications, etc. Uses a variety of supplies such as maintenance forms, traffic marking paint, reflective beads, replacement parts, etc
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including Paint Supervisor, citizens and motorists.
- Responsible for traffic control; provides information to the public.
- Assists other divisions and departments.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies that pertain to the performance of duties of the Highway Paint Equipment Operator.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the collection and transportation of materials.
- Ability to safely and skillfully operate trucks and equipment necessary for assigned duties. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry.
- Ability to work effectively despite exposure to extreme weather and temperatures, wetness/humidity, machinery hazards, traffic hazards, dust, fumes, above-average noise, odors, smoke, vibrations, hazardous waste, etc.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance methods.
- Ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required.
- Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, equipment manuals, and other materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
- Ability to prepare simple records with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of the terminology used within the department.
