This is a position established and supported by Public Works Operations in conjunction with the Hampton Roads Public Works Academy to train HRPWA Cadets in careers in Public Works

Street Maintenance Division - maintain and repair City streets, curbs and sidewalks, installs and repairs storm drainage pipes, manholes, curbs and gutters. Traffic Engineering Division - installs, removes, replaces, repairs and maintains traffic signs, street signs, directional and information signs. Sets up and removes barricades from work areas and detours. Removes graffiti from signs.
Public Works Engineering - inspects construction projects and enforces City ordinances governing minimum standards and requirements of new sanitary sewer and water main construction, alterations and repairs. Performs data collection activities as warranted. Uses a variety of tools such as mechanic tools, power tools, vehicle pressure washer, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as construction supplies, replacement parts and maintenance forms.
