The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Signal Technician I in the Public Works Department.

As a Signal Technician I, you will:
- Assists in maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of ITS equipment which includes but not limited to traffic signals hardware, traffic controllers, MMUs, battery backup systems, railroad monitoring devices, portable/permanent dynamic message signs, luminaires, in-pavement lights, preemption devices, point tilt zoom cameras, wayside horns, school zone beacons, magnetometers, and radar speed signs.
- Performs yearly maintenance on all devices per division standards. Installation and repair may require but not limited to pulling cable, digging, concrete core drilling, and hanging traffic signal hardware.
- Ability to drive and operate a bucket truck to reach traffic signal equipment 20 feet to 40 feet.
- Assists with special events in coordination with Traffic Management Center (TMC) to help with traffic management; make field adjustments from traffic cabinet as needed.
- Learn Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to verify status of intersection and get operation details.
- Complete work orders in the asset management system that helps track inventory of material used and details of work completed.
- Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Training (License and/or Certification):
- Obtain IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certification within 12 months of hire
Obtain IMSA Traffic Signal I Certification within 18 months of hire.
- - must obtain the Class B CDL Permit within the first 90 days of employment and receive the Commercial Driver License with air brake endorsements by the end of the five months.
