Internships are designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in local government, including gaining practical research experience and assisting with project development within the designated departments. Interns will also gain valuable experience working in a professional office environment. Â

Interns will perform tasks as assigned by Department Director or supervisor, including but not limited to:
- Assists with the Short-Term Vacation Rental licensing program in accordance Florida Statutes and the City's ordinance. This requires reviewing license applications for completeness and accuracy within established timeframes, communicating with applicants, monitoring unregistered properties, inspecting properties as-needed and producing reports.
- Interns assigned to the Planning & Zoning Division will gain hands on experience in municipal planning and zoning processes through assisting professional staff in the preparation and review of zoning documents including building permits, site plans, reports, maps, charts, graphs, certificates of use, licenses, and other related zoning files.
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Ability to show relevant course work in public administration or urban planning.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate in a professional, friendly and tactful manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, government officials, representatives of other agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to pay close attention to details.
- Ability to be a team player.
- Knowledge of personal computers and literate in Microsoft Office Word; some knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Must currently be enrolled in a post-secondary institution to obtain an academic degree preferably in Urban Planning or Public Administration.
- Valid Florida Driver's LicenseÂ
