The purpose of this position is to perform variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and upkeep of an assigned division such as Parks, Grounds, Facilities or Streets maintenance within the Public Works Department.

- Uses hand tools and equipment and a variety of machines safety and efficiently to assist with repair tasks or general maintenance.
- Operates and maintains ground maintenance equipment or power tools, as well as City Vehicles; performs general maintenance on City vehicles, including washing, waxing, and preventative maintenance.
- Cuts grass and trims weeds on town property and parks, using lawn mower and weed trimmer, and other related equipment. Upkeeps irrigation systems.
- Cleans buildings, washes windows, and empties trash cans, using brooms, cleaning supplies, and floor buffers.
- May perform the installation, repair and replacement of curbs, gutters, storm drains as well as paving, patching, overlaying, and pothole repair to City streets and sidewalks.
- Maintains and repairs municipal buildings' plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts, such as switches and fuses.
- Uses paint and painting tools to touch up or repaint City facilities.
- May pick up and discard dead animals, trash, and remove shopping carts according to City policy.
- Installs and/or replaces traffic signs, streetlights, and pavement markings. Assists with the set up and take down of City sponsored events and functions.
- Identifies opportunity for cost control measures in the delivery of all services and functions in his/her department and under his/her area of responsibility.
- Handles maintenance responsibilities within the facility housekeeping area. This includes cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing rest rooms; sweeping and vacuuming floors and carpets; mopping, scrubbing, waxing and cleaning carpets and floors; emptying trash cans and waste bins; cleaning and dusting office furniture, walls and windows.
- Sets up and breaks down chairs and tables in conference rooms; assembled and moves furniture; mounts information and white boards.
- Picks up trash around the City Hall grounds and inside the parking garage and sweeps the walk areas and entrances around the facilities as needed.
- Performs minor maintenance work such as changing light bulbs, repair fixtures and furniture including minor repairs. Performs daily inspection of offices, lobbies, and conference and meeting rooms and parking garages for cleanliness and cleans as necessary.
- Assists with monitoring vendor contracts, inspecting their work and providing input into performance.
- Prepares various reports as required.
- Distributes large items deliveries to City Hall and corresponding facilities. Controls materials and supply ordering and inventory.
- Responds and resolves complaints related to housekeeping or maintenance.
- Performs any other related job duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of business letter writing.
- Knowledge of the materials and methods used in facility maintenance and custodial operations, including specialized cleaning agents and sanitation standards.
- Knowledge of computer fundamentals desirable.
- Skill in basic mathematical functions.
- Ability to operate City vehicles, power tools, and equipment including a radio.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to learn the maintenance operation, policy, and procedures of the City and the assigned department or office.
- Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction and/or maintenance.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Possession of a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Stormwater Operation one (1) and two (2) certifications required.
- Stormwater Inspector Certificate desired at time of employment. Required within one (1) year of employment.

- There is a one-year probationary period.
