Lifeguard 2025 Pool Season

The City of Sunnyside is currently accepting applications to fill multiple lifeguard positions for the 2024 summer pool season! Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and Pool Managers, qualified applicants will perform the duties of lifeguard during public and private events at the Sunnyside Pool for the purpose of rescue and control. All lifeguards are expected to work in a professional manner with the public and perform the duties as assigned by the Pool Managers. All interested applicants are encouraged to apply here.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform cleaning, maintenance and cashiering duties.
• Ability to understand, read, and explain pool rules and regulations to patrons.
• Ability to perform any rescue, first aid, or CPR that may be needed by patrons or other staff members.
• Responsible for the continuous observation of the pool and the surrounding area to ensure the safety of all patrons.
• Responsible for knowing rescue procedures, emergency action plans, recognition of person in need of help, and rendering help when needed.
• Ability to work as a team as part of a coordinated effort to effectively respond to emergencies and promote a safe enjoyable pool environment for all.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least 15 1/2 years of age by the opening of the pool
• Valid First Aid/CPR and Lifeguard certification
• Ability to follow both written and oral instruction
• Ability to maintain professional working relationships
• Must be able to multi-task and work under pressure
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to patrons
• Bi-lingual preferred.

Certification Required:

• Must obtain First Aid/CPR, AED certifications and Lifeguard certification within one (1) month of hire date.

This is a seasonal temporary position and is not subject to benefits. Applications will be reviewed based on overall qualifications and an oral interview. Candidates that successfully complete the oral interview will be required to successfully pass a comprehensive background/criminal history check and reference check.
