This classification maintains athletic fields and other department facilities for the City. An employee in this position performs a variety of routine park maintenance work not requiring the skills at a craft or trade level; preps and fertilizes turf; removes weeds and trash; prepares athletic fields for games; and assists in preparation for special events; This position also operates pick-up trucks with trailers and basic field and maintenance equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains park grounds, athletic fields, and other department facilities.
- Performs a variety of park maintenance work not requiring the skilled performance of a given craft or trade including minor repair of field equipment.
- Performs a variety of manual labor work not requiring any special skilled application including: prepping areas for sod, aerating, fertilizing, and top-dressing turf; removing weeds and trash; preparing athletic fields for games; and assisting in preparations for special events.
- Operates a pick-up truck with trailer, John Deere ball diamond groomer, paint machine, line markers, backpack sprayers, edgers, string trimmers, blowers, tractors, and other equipment used in the maintenance of athletic fields.
- Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED equivalency diploma.
EXPERIENCE
- Basic work experience in the care and maintenance of turf, athletic fields, and park facilities.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the techniques and equipment used in the maintenance of athletic fields and park grounds.
- Knowledge of the care of turf and/or athletic fields.
- Skill in the use and operation and care of simple hand tools and athletic field turf equipment.
- Skill in the use of department software.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep simple records.
- Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor out-of-doors and occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to maintain and repair park facilities.
- Ability to render services to park users and patrons of park facilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, the general public, and City officials.
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and varied responsibilities.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively to develop win-win solutions.
Salary : $42,366 - $59,862
