What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at City Of Sweetwater?
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
- Execute age-appropriate recreational activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, and nature exploration.
- Supervise and monitor campers during activities, meals, and free time to ensure safety and adherence to camp rules.
- Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to campers to encourage personal growth and social interaction.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to organize special events, trips, and themed activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized camp environment, including equipment and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
- Address behavioral issues and conflicts using positive behavior management techniques.
- Follow emergency procedures and protocols as needed.
- Perform any and all other duties/responsibilities/tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for working with children.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment and independently.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening process.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings during camp sessions.
- First aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Previous experience in childcare, youth programs, or camp settings (preferred).
- Proficiency in English and Spanish required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be taken into consideration.
