What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax & License Field Auditor position at City of Tacoma?
Responsibilities:
- Determine auditing issues, scope, depth, and appropriate examination procedures.
- Identify and address unregistered businesses.
- Review and analyze financial records, reports, and documents of businesses to verify gross income and assess the correct amount of business and occupation tax owed to the City.
- Conduct audits in adherence to Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, the City Code, applicable State and Federal laws, and prevailing court decisions.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive audit reports, presenting the scope and reasoning used to reach decisions.
- Maintain well-organized working papers and supporting documentation.
- Review tax refund requests for accuracy, make necessary adjustments, and issue determinations.
This position primarily involves office-based work, with occasional site visits to businesses. During fieldwork, you will drive to various locations to perform inspections, which may require flexibility in working late evenings and weekends.

An equivalent combination to:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in finance, business administration, accounting related field AND
- Two years' experience in professional ledger review and auditing work including experience in revenue auditing.

Appointment is subject to passing a background check. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and Teamsters Local 117. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
