The City of Takoma Park is seeking enthusiastic staff members to work for the Recreation Department's teen summer camp at the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Ave). Incumbents will lead in planning, organizing and spearheading a variety of program activities including crafts, sports and more throughout the summer for teens in grades 6-12. The typical work hours vary and shifts will be from Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., from June 30 - Jul 25. Incumbents must attend pre-service training in mid-June. Incumbents have the potential to continue employment for the 2025-2026 MCPS school year.
Typical Duties include:

Providing customer service and general supervision of the summer camp program participants.

Providing for a clean, safe and secure environment.

Setting up and breaking down of the program at the beginning and end of the program.

Informing parents of programs, activities and any other vital information.

Effectively organizing and documenting participant forms, incident reports, and emergency plans.

Remaining energetic and active at all times and is innovative when participants are idle, restless, or unwilling to participate.

Monitoring patrons and ensuring the rules are followed and the patron's behavior is appropriate

Positively enforcing disciplinary procedures and abiding by Recreation Department Discipline policy.

Maintaining and operating the proper use of equipment and supplies by participants.

Administering first-aid, if necessary.

Attend a Defensive Driving course in order to drive City vehichles.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to be successful are:

Able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
Minimum Qualifications include:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must possess or have the ability to possess Standard CPR/First Aid certifications.
The hourly rate for this position is expected to be between $19.34 and $20.22 per hour, and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. This position is not subject to membership in the AFSCME union.
