Performs routine technical activities maintaining and repairing city buildings. Work involves utilizing trades skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, and cement finishing, correcting issues with buildings, physical structures, equipment, and system components.

Work is performed under general supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position exercises some independent judgment in accordance with defined policies, procedures, and techniques.  Reports to the Facility Management Supervisor or designee.

Staff may also perform other duties as assigned. 

Performs routine inspections of facilities and grounds, noting defects, sanitation problems, and safety hazards for appropriate corrective actions.

Receives work order requests for a variety of corrective and preventative maintenance repair work requiring several trades and multiple skill levels.

Prepares estimates of time and materials needed to complete work orders and assignments; prepares schematics and diagrams as needed.

Repairs doors, windows, furniture, panels, partitions, and other building structures; erects building frames, installs joists, and lays flooring.

Installs and fastens small and large components fabricated from wood, plastic, ceiling tile, fiberglass, and drywall.

Performs carpentry work using tools including but not limited to, chisels, planes, saws, and drills and installs and changes locks.

Prepares surfaces and applies paint, stain, varnish, and other finishings to building and physical structures. 

Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, traps, sewers, and vents; bends, cuts, reams, and threads pipe, and opens holes in walls for pipe installations as necessary.; opens clogged drains with plungers and other devices.
Performs visual and pressure gauge inspections related to leaking pipes.

Mixes concrete and mortar; constructs and sets concrete forms; pours, spreads, and finishes concrete surfaces and spreads mortar to secure placed block, brick, and stone. 

Assists in the repair, maintenance and installation of mechanical equipment such as lubricating bearings, cleaning and replacing filters, and cleaning equipment.

Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of lighting fixtures and other electrical apparatus.

Gives general or detailed instruction to maintenance personnel; monitors work in progress and reviews work completed. 

Participates in moving and installing furniture, machinery, and equipment; erects scaffolding to provide access to work areas, regularly working at a range of heights.

Maintains and prepares records for a variety of inventory; submits requests for supplies and equipment to accomplish assigned tasks.

Performs custodial activities as assigned, removing litter and refuse; guides personnel in the cleaning and maintenance of parking areas, building interiors and exteriors, walkways, and other municipal grounds and facilities.

Cleans, maintains, and repairs building fixtures and equipment, including locks, windows, doors, screens, venetian blinds, gutters, drains, furniture, and shelving.

Adheres to all City and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.

Maintains quality communication and interaction with all City employees, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive City image.

Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 
Pay and Bargaining Status
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement.  This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.


High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two (2) years of experience maintaining, repairing, and constructing facilities, using the skills and materials of multiple trades; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. 

Required Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver license and the ability to travel independently from one city location to another or to offsite location/s.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.

Salary : $44,000 - $58,000
