Performs skilled technical work performing electrical installations and repairs for the City of Tamarac. Work involves diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical fixtures, equipment, and systems in the city's buildings, equipment, and property.
Work is performed under minimal supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position relies on experience and exercises some independent judgement to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures. Reports to Facility Management Supervisor or designee.

Inspects, tests, diagnoses, repairs, or installs a wide range of AC/DC electrical equipment; checks for systems and operating components for power functionality and determines if non-electrical or outside repair services are required.
Erects, connects, operates, and maintains lighting, electrical, and sound systems; operates generators incidental to the completion of assigned tasks.
Revamps, disassembles, tests, diagnoses, repairs, rewires, and replaces malfunctioning parts, and reassembles a variety of lighting fixtures including but not limited to, sodium, mercury vapor, quartz-halogen, fluorescent, incandescent, or other types of light fixtures.
Repairs, replaces, or installs new interior and exterior fixtures, including those on rooftops, upper-level exterior walls, posts and poles, at ground level, in water features, and in underground trenches.
Operates bucket truck to access fixtures on rooftops, upper level exterior walls, posts and posts.
Repairs or adjusts lighting-related equipment and activators such as timers, relays and switches, and photocells.
Routinely maintains and inspects the adequacy of electrical equipment in all city facilities, interior and exterior, to ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations; advises supervisor of any unsafe or non-compliant conditions.
Guides and/or instructs department personnel to perform various routine repair tasks such as heating solder, cleaning lead sleeves, and obtaining tools required to perform the task at hand; reviews and tests their work for conformance to instructions, proper connection, and operating efficiency.
Develops technical specifications for the maintenance or installation of electrical systems.
Designs and permits new electrical construction or renovations; installs and/or oversees the installation of all conduits, wiring, and panels as required for such projects.
Designs and implements energy management systems to maximize efficiency of city electricity use; installs and maintains temporary electrical systems for special events; remains on-site for special events to monitor electrical systems.
Installs computer network, data communications, and telephone lines.
Safely and carefully uses equipment and power, hand, and diagnostic tools required to complete assigned tasks; maintains and repairs assigned equipment and tools.
Inspects the work of external contractors to ensure compliance with technical specifications; prepares cost estimates and schedules for assigned projects.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of reports and documents such as permits, blueprints, diagrams, mechanical drawings, purchase requisitions, bid specifications, project records, daily log, and correspondence.
Adheres to all City and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all City employees, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive City image.

Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.

Pay and Bargaining Status
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.
High School/Vocational diploma or technical certification required; supplemented by four (4) years of skilled electrical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Required Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver license and the ability to travel independently from one city location to another or to offsite location/S, and obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
Must possess a State of Florida or Broward County Journeyman Electrical License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
State of Florida or Broward County Master Electrical License.
