Learns and performs clerical activities to support accuracy and efficiency in general office services pertaining to utilities billing. Work involves performing routine front-line customer service activities, operating a payment receiving system, preparing general reports, and maintaining accurate records. 

Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Utility Billing Supervisor or designee.

Greets internal and external customers and in response to basic questions, provides directions and assistance, in person and via email and phone.

Performs general cashiering and payment processing procedures; processes payments from the city’s utilities customers, reconciles accounts, reviews deposits, checks, and receipts, and maintains assigned records.

Performs lien search processing, customer account maintenance, Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) station operations, and the appropriate established standards and responses for customer complaints and concerns.

Performs general clerical support activities including and not limited to, balancing, and reporting on customer accounts, preparing, and submitting records and reports, generating PINs in Click-to-Gov, and submitting service work orders.

Maintains inventory of office supplies and prepares purchase orders per established procedures and as requested.

Supports data compilation efforts as requested by supervisors and/or auditors. 

Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.

Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.

Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Pay and Bargaining Status
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the white collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement.  This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.


High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by some high-volume customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. 

Required Certifications and Licenses
May be required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to travel independently from one city location to another or to offsite location/s.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.

Salary : $43,000 - $45,000
