What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Operations Supervisor position at City of Tavares?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans, directs, and coordinates, through subordinate personnel and contract services, the implementation of the Parks Management Division work plan; utilizes designated operation management system, assigns related work activities and projects; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures; meets with management staff to identify and resolve operational problems. Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, hedge trimming, dragging, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, applying pesticides, and other manual labor tasks.
2. Follows plans regarding the installation, care, and maintenance of various types of landscapes within the landscape system, including trees, shrubs, ground cover, and turf.
3. Works independently or cooperatively as a member of a team to complete work on schedule and according to quality control standards set by the Parks Operations Manager.
4. Supervises maintenance staff in the safe application and use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and fertilizers in compliance with state law. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex irrigation systems.
5. Participates in developing and implementing division goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area.
6. Understand the operations, protocols, and procedures involved in managing a cemetery, including the ability to meet with the public to determine burial space, sell, mark, and document ownership of burial plots using the cemetery management platform in the absence of the Cemetery Sexton.
7. Assist in general administrative duties of the department; maintain comprehensive work records, maintenance records, accident records, vehicle maintenance records, equipment, and labor costs; collect information and data for various reports; prepare reports and statistical analyses to aid and plan an evaluation of park maintenance programs; prepare an annual budget for the Parks Division; make cost projections, draft bid specifications and review proposals; review billings for accuracy; monitor inventory of parts and equipment.
8. Maintenance services to various areas, which may include but are not limited to; picnic areas, native grassland, and wildflower areas, playgrounds, shelters, nature trails, wetlands, biking trails, open turf play areas, equestrian trails, and wildlife habitat areas.
9. Operates vehicles and performs daily checks on vehicles and safety equipment such as fluid levels, tires, lights, and a walk-around check for damage. Performs daily maintenance on mowers; checking fluid levels, changing blades, cleaning air filters, checking tires, checking for damage, and lubricating daily.
10. Operates equipment such as but not limited to front-end loaders, tractors, mowers, and rototillers.
11. Maintains a positive and professional attitude at all times.
12. Required to attend training and/or continuing education as assigned by the Parks Manager.
13. Participates in the implementation of City-Wide special events.
14. Assist other Divisions as necessary.
15. Must be available to work in the event of a disaster to assist with recovery response efforts.
