JOB TITLE: RECREATION COORDINATOR PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision, plans, directs and supervises the operations and activities of the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Tega Cay. Work involves assisting with the development and promotion of recreation opportunities for the public, managing sports league activities, coordinating the maintenance of facilities and grounds, and performing related professional, supervisory and administrative work as required. Reports to the Director of Parks and Recreation.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in supervising and evaluating the operations and administration of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Assists in developing and implements department policies and procedures.
Assists in ensuring the department's compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Studies parks and recreation needs; examines programs of other cities, counties and states to determine their applicability to such needs; recommends and assists in developing programs to address local needs.
Schedules and supervises recreational programs for all citizens, including programs designed for special interest groups and for those of various ages and capabilities.
Sets dates for all youth sports seasons, including skill evaluation dates, picture dates, practice/game/tournament schedules, etc.
Coordinates registration for all recreation programs. Selects and trains, as needed, all youth sport coaches. Orders and distributes team uniforms.
Inspects recreational areas to assess maintenance needs; coordinates with maintenance staff to ensure facilities are prepared and ready for activities.
Enforces rules and regulations governing the use of parks and recreational facilities.
Takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all citizens that utilize department property and facilities, enroll in recreation classes, attend special events and take part in any activity offered by the department.
Participates in department marketing and public relations efforts; makes public presentations to inform the public about department projects and programs.
Coordinates department activities and functions with those of other City and county departments and outside agencies as appropriate.
Represents the department and City at various conferences and meetings; serves as liaison to other municipalities, counties, state and federal agencies, various boards and commissions, community/professional/civic groups, the news media, other professionals and the general public.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as schedules, registration forms, coach applications, and various other records, reports and correspondence.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as event/program schedules, publicity materials, rosters, routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, forms, reports and other documents.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, sports rules and regulations, equipment manuals, etc.
Operates office equipment such as a computer, copier, calculator, radio, telephone, etc.; operates a motor vehicle; uses office supplies, recreation equipment, general hand tools, computer word processing and data processing software.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the supervisor, other City department heads and officials, subordinates, other City staff, elected officials, volunteers, news media and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs general administrative/clerical work as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, attending meetings, receiving and responding to e-mails and faxes, etc.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or closely related field with three to five years experience in recreation programming; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid South Carolina driver's license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Position involves walking, reaching, bending, crouching, reclining, stooping, and balancing and is in excess of sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to one hundred pounds.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes the giving of assignments and instructions to co workers and assistants. Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents and reports such as reports, records, schedules, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports such as plans, schedules, reports, etc., with the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Must be able to speak before an audience with poise, voice control, and confidence.
Intelligence: Has the ability to apply principles of rational systems such as management to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to use and interpret recreation and sports terminology used on the job.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; adding and subtracting totals; multiplying and dividing; determining percentages and decimals; determining time and weight; and utilizing basic algebraic and geometric calculations.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using equipment, machinery and tools; to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment, tools, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.
Interpersonal Temperament: Has the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency.
