Annual Salary Range:
Level I: $71,063 up to $94,514
Level II: $80,458 up to $107,009
This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

DESCRIPTION
The City of Tempe is an award-winning and nationally recognized organization for its practices as a national model for an innovative modern government. This position works within the fast-paced Strategic Management and Innovation Office. This position provides organizational support and program management for complex work on a wide variety of high-profile municipal programs such as Tempe’s Wastewater BioIntel Program, TempeStat: Vision Zero, and the City Council’s annual Performance-Led Budgeting Strategy Tool for Aligning Resources for Tempe (ST.A.R.T.).
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Establish and implement schedules, policies, and systems for program and office operations.
- Prepare comprehensive and timely budget documents; prepare, revise, and administer annual budget and capital improvement programs; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations and submit justification for budget items; monitor and control expenditures; advise managers and other administrative personnel on budget problems, policies, and procedures.
- Develop communications on a variety of platforms for presentations, facilitations, meeting notes, summaries and a variety of publications.
- Manage office operations and administration, including document management and submissions for public presentations and formal Council action.
- Prepare comprehensive administrative, operational, statistical and data illustrated reports or manuals for use by internal and/or external stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
Level I:
Requires one (1) year of full-time administrative experience, preferably in a public agency.
Level II:
Requires two (2) years of full-time administrative or program management experience, preferably in a public agency. Some supervisory experience is preferred.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Both Levels:
Requires the equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration or degree related to the core functions of this position. A master’s degree is preferred.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
