The Temple Terrace City Clerk oversees the City’s legislative affairs.
As a Charter Officer, the City Clerk supports the Mayor and City Council as well as the City Manager and other City personnel directly involved in the City’s management.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Assisting the City Manager’s Office with the preparation and distribution of the City Council agenda.
· Providing administrative and legislative support for the City Council, Municipal Code Enforcement Board, and Board of Adjustment.
· Preparing ordinances, resolutions, and proclamations.
· Serving as the custodian of all City records, contracts, and documents.
· Responding to public record requests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of effective budget processes; administrative principles, practices, procedures, and methods.
- Working knowledge of legal advertising requirements, intergovernmental relations, election laws and procedures, and procurement laws and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of the practice and methods, and state regulations for public records management, retention and disposition; ability to develop and direct records management programs.
- Ability to understand and interpret state and local laws, draft ordinances, resolutions, agreements; prepare and maintain the department’s budget.
- Ability to effectively organize, supervise, train, and direct employees.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Laserfiche.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business, government, public administration, or political science.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Municipal Clerk or Deputy Municipal Clerk, including three (3) years supervisory experience.
- Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certification; Master Municipal Clerk designation preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years current or past membership with the International Institute of Municipal Clerks or the Florida Association of City Clerks or membership in a similar clerk-related professional association.
- Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Notary Public of the State of Florida, or obtain license within three (3) months of employment.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
Recruitment for this position will remain open through April 30, 2025. At its May 6, 2025 regular meeting, the Temple Terrace City Council will identify a short list of 3-5 candidates for in-person interviews. Interviews are anticipated for a single day in the month of May and will consist of two elements: 1) Individual candidate interviews with each of the 5 members of City Council in the morning and 2) a public interview before the City Council in the Council Chambers in the afternoon.
