POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Certified Water Distribution Operator -
Cross Connection Control Specialist
City of The Dalles
Closing Date: Open Until Filled - First Review March 5, 2025
DEFINITION: Performs skilled and semi-skilled task assignments necessary to the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system and, when necessary, provides service assistance to the wastewater collection system as may be directed. Operates equipment necessary to achieving these service objectives. Is assigned to "On Call" duties on a 24-hour-per-day basis according to a schedule of rotational assignment developed by the Division Manager.
Works as both a Water Distribution Operator and Cross Connection Control Specialist/Tester as assigned. Manages and implements the City's Cross Connection Control Program including associated computerized data management system (Tokay). Performs all essential job functions of the Certified Operator (Water Distribution) and the following additional job functions.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.
Education: High School Graduation (or equivalent) is required. Additional training in cross connection control, water/wastewater technologies, operations and maintenance of water systems, water system construction, pump operation and maintenance, and/or computer use is expected.
Experience: At least one (1) year of experience as the Cross Connection Contact Person for a public water system, including computerized records management, is desired.
At least two (2) years of water distribution operations experience in Class II or higher system is desired; utilities service construction practices and the use of light and heavy-duty equipment and tools necessary to the operations of water distribution operations of the Division is desired. Medium to high computer skills required.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
- Certification as an Oregon Class II Water Distribution Operator or higher, or its reciprocal equivalent acceptable to the Oregon Health Authority Drinking Water Program, is desired time of The employee is required to be certified within thirteen (13) months of hire at a minimum of Oregon Class I Water Distribution Operator, and is required to achieve Class II Water Distribution certification within thirty-seven (37) months.
- Oregon certification as Cross Connection Specialist and Backflow Assembly Tester is desired at time of hire and required within 1 year.
- A valid Driver's License is required at time of hire. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "Tanker" endorsement within 6 months of the time of hire is desired. The employee is required to be licensed within twelve (12) months of
PAY: $57,067.80 to $77,403.15 annually, plus generous benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision insurances and employer-paid retirement contributions equal to 13.5% of base wage after one year of employment.
