What are the responsibilities and job description for the Broadband Installer Apprentice position at City of Thomasville?
Description
Position reports to Broadband Line Tech.
Performs new cable installations from system feeder tap port to the customer's equipment interface. This includes aerial / underground drops and inside wiring to customer video and data equipment.
Responsible for installation and provisioning of high-speed Internet services to new and existing customers via cable modem to include networking.
Provides Level I data support, Troubleshoots cable modem, Ethernet network, OS and CPU equipment.
Installs various software and hardware to enable customer Internet access.
Troubleshoots and finds drop related problems.
Replaces or rewires house drops or any part thereof when it is necessary to correct drop related problems.
Educates customer of the proper operation and use of interface equipment. Provides customers with information on company services and costs.
Coordinates with scheduling, dispatch, or supervisors on job status, problems encountered and rescheduling requirements.
Recovers company equipment from customer's premises when performing disconnection.
Responsible for the safe care and use of company vehicles, tools and equipment at all times.
Performs all duties safely in accordance with Thomasville Utilities safety policies, training and procedures. Reports all hazardous conditions to immediate supervisor for correction.
Performs on-call rotation as assigned by supervisor.
Position Requirements
Must have high school diploma or GED. Must have valid driver's license. Must be able to perform assigned duties with or without accommodation relating to prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions Meets Thomasville Utilities certification criteria for Level II status. Should be able to lift, carry and handle ladders and weights up to 90 pounds. Must meet Thomasville Utilities standards of appearance and demeanor at all times. Must have a valid driver's license and driving record must meet the requirements outlined in the company's Driver Safety Standards. Must work well with other company employees to provide excellent customer service. Must maintain excellent relationships with customers to create and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction with the company and its services.
Physical / Environmental Requirements
The primary work environment of this position is in field, the candidate will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and will be on occasion required to perform manual tasks. These tasks will include but are not limited to the following (lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing and walking over rough terrain).
