YOUR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITES:
Under direction, the Facilities Specialist supervises and coordinates the operations of the recreation facility for the patrons of the City of Thornton.

WHERE YOU'LL BE BASED:
The Thornton Community Center, located at 2211 Eppinger Blvd, is the newest recreational facility for the City of Thornton, opened in October 2024. The Thornton Community Center serves our diverse community seven days a week. We have traditional amenities such as a weight room, walking track, cardio and circuit equipment, and a wood floor that is lined for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball. We have unique spaces such as a meditation garden, outdoor amphitheater, outdoor skate park, boxing gym, coffee terrace, and an Anythink Library. We are also home to summer camp, preschool, and dance.

YOUR SCHEDULE AND WORK HOURS:
Sundays 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m., and Wednesdays - alternating schedule: 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m./10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees use of recreation center equipment and facilities; controls access to the center, and supervises general sanitation and safety of facility. Securely opens and/or closes the facility.

Works with community groups and individuals in determining recreation program needs and interests of the community, and in establishing programs to meet such needs.

Provides quality customer service by responding to customer issues and concerns in a timely manner. Reviews circumstances and takes appropriate action.

Prepares reports to document accidents and other incidents in the general facility at center; prepares monthly facility usage and revenue reports.

Performs routine maintenance and repairs of facilities and equipment, diagnosing problems, arranging for maintenance and repairs, and ensuring the ongoing safety of recreation facilities.

Maintains daily revenue and attendance records. Maintains and enters data into computer. Prepares daily deposit.

Conducts or participates in various staff meetings or briefings.

Assists with ordering, receiving, stocking and distributing general facility supplies.

Ensures staff and patron adherence to operating policies and procedures. Monitors and enforces policies on a daily basis.

Demonstrates proper use of equipment as needed.

Schedules rentals and tours of public facilities, including processing agreements and assisting with room set-ups.

Supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff; makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination or advancement of employees. Schedules employees, assigns work, and monitors progress; guides, trains and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties and professional growth; evaluates performance.

Assists with special events including, but not limited to, Thorntonfest, Fourth of July, Harvest Fest and Winter Fest.

Assists with the various facility work groups as the need arises, including staff scheduling.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED, supplemented by college-level course work in recreation or related field; two years' experience in recreation facility administration, including previous lead or supervisory experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate or ability to obtain within 60 days.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the City of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of facilities management and program administration.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer service.
Knowledge of City of Thornton purchasing and personnel policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Rectrac Recreation Software.
Knowledge of the principles of management, employee supervision and training.
Knowledge of City of Thornton recreation facilities.
Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.
Skill in maintaining a variety of records related to recreation facility program operations.
Skill in routine repair and maintenance of recreation equipment and facilities.
Skill in performing life-saving and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) activities.
Skill in organizing and assisting with special events.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to supervise, direct and train employees.
Ability to promote programs and to provide quality customer service.
Ability to diagnose problems, arrange and assist with maintenance and repairs, and ensure the ongoing safety of recreation facilities.
Ability to draft, recommend, interpret, and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to enter and retain data on revenue and attendance records.
Ability to process cash deposits.
Ability to efficiently schedule rentals and tours of public facilities, including processing agreements, and assisting with room set-ups as required.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Ability to follow oral and written direction from others.
Ability to use standard computer equipment and software including word processing, data base management, spreadsheet applications, internet, and electronic mail.
Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position, i.e. telephone, Rectrac Recreation Software and cash register, etc.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, community members and the general public.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and/or flexible schedules.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This is mostly; light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. The employee is required to have close visual acuity. The employee is subject to noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
