Examples of Duties

We are looking for you if you : Enjoy providing excellent customer service and want to be part of a dynamic and skilled team maintaining rapidly growing wastewater and storm collection systems and green infrastructure. If you enjoy serving and helping the public, you work well in a team environment, and have a get it done mindset, you should join our team! We currently two positions available in this division.

  • Installing catch basins, manholes, mainline and performing creek / stream restoration while working on our stormwater system.
  • Performing spot repairs and maintaining access in various wastewater and storm locations.
  • Assisting citizens with questions they may have regarding the sanitary system and how their private system connects.
  • Cleaning both sanitary and stormwater collection systems by operating Vactor combination hydro cleaner trucks.
  • Cleaning includes cleaning the main pipe systems, catch basins, as well as other areas the division is responsible for.
  • Video inspection of both wastewater and stormwater systems by assisting our inspection unit operators.
  • In addition to these duties, we also perform restoration work in many drainage areas eliminating and mitigating erosion within those areas that are in forested areas.
  • During weather events and emergencies, the division also assists other divisions as needed to ensure the public receives the highest level of customer service.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be :

    Utility Worker II :

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND
  • Two (2) years of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation underground utilities.
  • Class A CDL required within six months of hire
  • Utility Worker I :

  • One (1) year of experience in construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of underground utilities, routine service of light and heavy vehicles and other power driven equipment. (No CDL Required)
  • Licenses and Certifications :

  • Possession of a valid Class A (CDL) Commercial Oregon driver's license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving record. (Utility Worker II)
  • Standard First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide License (if applying to parks maintenance).
  • Additional Information :

    The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job.

    Supplemental Information

    Union Representation : SEIU

    Schedule : Generally, working days are Monday through Thursday one week (9-hour days) and Monday through Friday (9-hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8-hour day on Friday) the next week. This schedule provides 3-day weekends every other weekend.

    Compensation for Utility Worker II : The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $24.95-$33.44 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidates related experience and education in accordance with the Citys pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $30.33 per hour.

    Compensation for Utility Worker I : The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $23.75-$31.83 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidates related experience and education in accordance with the Citys pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $28.87 per hour.
