JOB SUMMARY

This is responsible administrative work involving the coordination and planning of social and recreational activities at the Harry T. Moore Social Service Center within the Neighborhood Services Department. The incumbent interacts effectively and tactfully with the public and all levels of City employees, providing information, referrals, and assistance to clients in completing applications. Directs clients to the appropriate agencies as needed.

The role requires the exercise of considerable judgment in evaluating confidential information, making referrals, and following up on cases. Work is performed under the direction of the Neighborhood Services Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

  • Calendar and Scheduling : Prepares and updates the monthly calendar for the Harry T. Moore Center, including scheduling appointments and coordinating services. Ensures arrangements are made for direct service delivery by the Center.
  • Visitor and Caller Assistance : Greets and assists visitors and callers in a courteous and professional manner. Responds to inquiries within scope of responsibility or directs them to the appropriate agency or authority when necessary.
  • Filing and Documentation : Maintains an organized filing system and manages various logs, reports, and documents.
  • Procurement and Supplies : Prepares and processes paperwork to procure necessary supplies and equipment, including adjustments when tenant occupancy changes.
  • Applicant Screening and Referrals : Screens and interviews service applicants, making appropriate dispositions, referrals, and case records. Acts as the liaison between clients and service agencies, handling difficult cases, and following up on referrals as needed.
  • Public and Agency Liaison : Serves as the City's liaison to the public, addressing community needs. Acts as the professional liaison to other agencies in the City and region, coordinating projects, activities, and events within the Neighborhood Services Department or the Harry T. Moore Social Service Center.
  • Community Engagement : Organizes community meetings and coordinates events related to City projects that impact or serve the community and / or the population served by the Harry T. Moore Social Services Center.
  • Community Action Plan : Prepares the Annual Community Action Plan for the Neighborhood Services Director, outlining strategies for collaboration with the community, other agencies, and City departments to enhance service delivery and program quality at the Center.
  • Confidentiality : Ensures compliance with HIPAA laws and maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the role.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS :

  • Knowledge of recreational programs offered in Brevard County.
  • Knowledge of the social recreational programs offered in Brevard County.
  • Knowledge of case reporting formats and eligibility standards for public assistance programs.
  • Ability to communicate with agencies and prospective clients and to represent the City before agencies and social organizations.
  • Skill and tact in dealing with people of all ages and status.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    Associate's degree in human services social work, or Recreation is preferred. Two (2) years of office administration experience dealing with public assistance and human service are required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Possession of a valid Florida operator's license with acceptable driving record.

    During occasions of local emergencies this position may be required to report to perform emergency tasks, which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members. The Incident Commander and the employee's department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.

    Requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additional physical abilities required :

  • Speaking : Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken English word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Ability to communicate verbally both in person and over the phone.
  • Sitting : Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Standing : Particularly for extended periods of time.
  • Stooping : Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Talking : Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Visual Acuity : Have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles, includes close vision, distant vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Walking : Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Climbing : Ascending or descending stairs, using feet and legs and / or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Feeling : Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Grasping : Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling : Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Hearing : Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Kneeling : Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Lifting : Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Mental Acuity : Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Reaching : Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion : Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and / or fingers.
