The City of Tomball is hiring for a Full Time Deputy Fire Marshal which will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the community by conducting technical fire code inspections on both new and existing buildings or locations, and undertaking fire investigations to establish the cause and origin of fires. Entails promoting public fire education, upholding compliance with laws, ordinances, and regulations related to fire prevention and control, and diligently performing fire investigative work. Expected to review plans for projects regulated by adopted fire codes, ensuring their compliance and issuing permits when necessary.

Education HS_GED
Experience Minimum of 1 year previous relevant work experience is required.
Certifications TCFP Basic Fire Inspector NIMS IS-100, 200, 700, 800, Courage to be Safe, and Traffic Incident Management, Cancer Awareness Training.
Licensing Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certifications, Driver's License
Deputy Fire Marshal functions include but are not limited to the following.
- Fire Inspections: Schedule inspections based on online requests. Coordinate overdue annual inspections and follow-ups using the Emergency Reporting Systems. Schedule "Fire Protection System Notifications" (Red and Yellow Tags) from licensed contractors. Respond to citizen complaints and emergencies involving commercial properties and businesses in line with the adopted fire codes.
- Fire Investigations: Conduct fire investigations in line with NFPA 1033 JPR's and ongoing training. Promptly respond to fire incidents, ensuring that scene and personnel documentation is rigorous. Use appropriate equipment to determine the fire's cause, ensuring its optimal working condition. If arson is suspected, collect evidence in a legally sound manner. Conduct interviews with firefighters and witnesses. Systematically collect, label, preserve, and present evidence from suspected incendiary fires. Maintain a daily activity log, promptly write reports, and be prepared for potential court testimonies.
- Administrative Duties: Manage emails, process and store documents, and maintain accurate records of all commercial buildings within city limits. Use of software systems: Outlook, Google, Revu, and Emergency Reporting.
- Plan Review: Review projects regulated by the adopted fire codes, ensuring they meet the necessary requirements. Use city-purchased software to review submitted plans, marking findings for clients. Save essential data to the Fire Department's drives for record retention and update Emergency Reporting with record-keeping procedures. Issue required fire permits upon thorough review and inspection.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls, providing assistance for incidents related to Fire Code or Fire Investigations as needed.
- Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
