What are the responsibilities and job description for the Abatement Specialist II position at City of Topeka?
The City of Topeka is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to serve as a member of its Property Maintenance team. This position oversees the planning and scheduling of abatements and assists by performing tasks such as cleaning and removing sanitation items from residential and city owned properties. This is a steady, year-round employment position with a Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule.
Primary duties include:
- Operating heavy equipment during abatements, such as dump trucks, bobcats/skid loaders, commercial lawn mowers and tractors.
- Removes debris that may contain potentially hazardous materials as well as potentially harmful natural plants and insects.
- Perform building and equipment maintenance duties
- Create invoices that reflect the total costs associated with abatements.
The ideal candidate:
- Thrives in a fast paced and changing work environment.
- Has an aptitude for mechanical repair and maintenance.
- Is experienced utilized technology or a desire to learn.
- Is comfortable working independently or as a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience in the operation of heavy self-propelled equipment and performance of semi-skilled building, mechanical, construction grounds maintenance or abatement tasks.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Kansas drivers license and city insurance driving record.
- Additional license or certifications may be required for this class.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite Applications and IPADs preferred.

Minimum entry rate of pay: $21.69 per hour
