The City of Topekas Utilities department is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to join its team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the fiscal integrity of the department and is responsible for reconciling the Utility Billing systems daily transactions to the Citys General Ledger and all related activities.
What you'll do:
- Balance and maintain daily Utility Billing with the Citys accounting system, ensuring that all subsidiary activity balances between the two systems.
- Evaluate, research and review transactions as they relate to cash handling.
- Prepare daily and monthly journal entries, including GASB requirements, transactional need, and interfund transfers.
- Maintains documentation, prepares schedules and provides detailed information as requested by the Citys independent auditors.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related field is required.
- Five years professional level accounting experience which may include preparing financial statements and reports, developing and monitoring budgets, monitoring grant expenditures and reimbursements, general ledger, cost or fund accounting is required.
- Without a degree, a High School diploma or its equivalent is acceptable with at least 7 years of formal accounting experience.
- Must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka insurance carrier and must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
Minimum entry rate of pay: $25.38 - $30.45 per hour, depending on qualifications
