The City of Topeka is seeking a dedicated individual to join its team as a Traffic Signal Technician II. This position is responsible for the maintenance of City-owned traffic signals and associated communications system. Work involves repair, replacement, adjustment and modification of microprocessor based electronic controller components and systems requiring a high level of skill. This work is performed in all weather conditions and incumbents may be required to respond to calls after regularly scheduled hours.
Traffic Signal Technicians must be able to work safely in and around moving traffic and will be required to work at heights up to 45 feet. Additionally, incumbents in this role must have the ability to determine color coding on electronic equipment and field wiring.
What youll do:
- Repair, replace, adjust, and troubleshoot sophisticated electronic traffic signal controllers, communications equipment and circuit boards.
- Resolves software and programming problems.
- Conducts routine inspections and preventative maintenance on traffic signals. Operate skid loaders, cranes and bucket trucks as required.
- Provide guidance and training to team members.
The ideal candidate:
- Enjoys taking things apart, problem solving, and putting them back together.
- Is highly organized, with the ability to work in fast-paced, distracting environments.
- Has the ability to analyze complex problems and exercise sound judgment to find solutions.
- Has the ability to interpret technical manuals, engineer drawings and maps.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka's insurance carrier.
- Five (5) years direct experience working on traffic signal systems required.
- Graduation from an accredited vocational, military or two-year college with courses in electronics technology is preferred.
- IMSA Work Zone or equivalent nationally recognized course is required and IMSA Signal and Street Lighting certification preferred. Five (5) years of verifiable work experience in the field, may be substituted for IMSA certifications.
- Two (2) years Leadman experience of planning and running crews preferred.
Entry rate of pay: $24.43 - $25.56 per hour, DOQ
