QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience / Training
California Applicants :
- A current Peace Officer in the State of California.
Graduation from an Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department.
Out-of-State Applicants :
Must have graduated from a Police Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department.
Education
High School graduate.
Certificates / License
Valid California Driver's License (prior to appointment date).
Must be age 21 by the date of filing.
HOW TO APPLY & EXAM PROCESS

Examinations will be conducted on a periodic basis depending on the needs of the City and the Department. The examination will consist of a panel interview (weighted 100%) which will explore the candidate's background, training, and experience.

Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance (Sec 6.1)
The City's monthly contribution for health insurance is up to $1,462.20. Any remaining amount may be used to offset family dental -or- two-party or family vision.

Retiree Health Insurance Stipend (Sec.6.3)

Surviving spouses receive $150.00 per month.
Upon reaching age 65, all retirees and surviving spouses receive $134 per month.
Retirement date after February 24, 2009 with 15 years of service
At age 50 in the 12 months prior to July 1 distribution receive 75% of retiree stipend with 20 years of service (YOS).
Death of a qualified retiree within the 12 months prior to July 1 distribution, the surviving spouse receives July 1 distribution for that year.
