What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAPITAL PROJECTS CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT position at City of Torrance?
This classification performs a full range of complex tasks and works within the framework of established procedures with only occasional instruction or assistance. Incumbents exercise independent judgment in the performance of duties, with great latitude in determining work methods and assignment requirements. Work may require the development of recommendations consistent with directives, policies and regulations.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and abilities required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience with capital project construction management, building trade construction work, and or experience as a building inspector for a municipal or county building department.
License or Certificates
A valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record required at time of hire and throughout employment.
An International Conference of Building Officials Building Inspector Certificate or certification of inspection technology is desirable.
Knowledge of
Materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures, and/or practices necessary to perform the required duties, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Uniform Building Code
- Pertinent Federal, State, County, and local regulations;
- Safety practices and health regulations;
- Current principles and practices of project scheduling and tracking;
- Project management and contract administration techniques.
- Building, electrical, plumbing, sewer, and related codes;
- Building materials, accepted safety standards, and modern methods of building construction.
