What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEMPORARY CUSTODIAN position at City of Torrance?
The City of Torrance is looking for a FULL-TIME TEMPORARY CUSTODIAN to work in a physically active environment to clean and maintain City buildings and facilities, and to move, set up, and make minor repairs to furniture and other office equipment.
Under supervision, Custodians perform routine cleaning duties, maintaining City buildings in a clean, orderly and secure condition and do related work as required.
This individual cleans offices, conference and meeting rooms; moves or sets up furniture and other office equipment; and operates various types of powered floor maintenance equipment. The Custodian also washes windows and walls; dusts furniture, woodwork, and fixtures; raises and lowers flags on City buildings; and maintains security and keeps City buildings locked during non-working hours.
The temporary position will last for a maximum of six months, but can end sooner based on department needs.

Note: This is a FULL-TIME TEMPORARY position that works a 9/80 schedule. Must be available to work Monday - Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.Education and Experience
None; however, prior experience is preferred. Must possess necessary skills for reading and independently following directions for the safe use and maximum utility of a wide variety of cleaning materials and equipment.
License and/or Certificates
A valid Class C California Driver's License.
Ideal Candidate:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Six (6) months to one (1) year previous custodial experience;
- A strong customer service orientation;
- A strong work ethic;
- A work history of stability, reliability, dependability, punctuality, and flexibility;
- A self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision;
- The ability to be proactive and search out projects; and
- Willingness to work in a physically active environment.
