What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Town Instructor position at City of Troy Michigan?
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the Safety Town Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, the Safety Town Instructor will be responsible for teaching/instructing safety techniques to children entering Kindergarten and 1st grade.
DUTIES
- Implement lesson plans prepared by Safety Town Coordinator
- Serve as a role model for children by displaying positive attitude, respect for each child and being sensitive to children's needs
- Communicate necessary information with parents
- Do safety checks on town, bicycles and signs daily
- Set up and take down of town
- Meet weekly with supervisor
- Monitor children's safety, including understanding and being able to implement emergency check-in/out procedures
- Assist Safety Town Coordinator with evaluation of program and children
- Assist speakers (Police Dept, Fire Dept, Ambulance, Louie The Lightning Bug)
- Direct group in songs, and field trips
- Knowledge of operation of TV/VCR
- Assume other duties as assigned
- As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).
PREFERENCES
- Prefer experience in teaching or another related field
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Knowledge of arts and crafts, nature, games, and songs
- Prefer current First Aid
- As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana)
HOURS
Part-time; seasonal.
Monday - Thursday; Training session in May then Mid-June through Early-August. 28 hours per week.
