Individuals working as Civic Activities Coordinators are responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs and activities for a diverse group of patrons. Employees in this job class typically schedule classes, instructors, trips, and other activities taking into account patron interest and budget. They also provide supervision to staff and volunteers, assigning and reviewing work, training staff on rules and regulations, and documenting issues relating to job performance.Plans, develops, and coordinates senior programs for the facility by gauging the interest of community members and coordinating several activities and services for community members.
Plans, coordinates, and travels with senior citizens on special overnight and multi-day trips.
Plans, schedules, and manages the nutrition program for senior citizens and oversees its operation and maintenance.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
Creates and maintains relationships with local and regional community service providers (e.g., Alabama Cooperative Extension) to bring various programs to the facility for community members.
Promotes maximum use of the Trussville Senior Center and its programs using various advertising mediums.
Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
Leads exercise and fitness programs.Driver's license.
Experience scheduling and coordinating various youth and/or senior activities (e.g., bridge, dance, ballet, art, travel arrangements) with programs, volunteers, and coworkers through meetings, telephone, email, and other forms of communication.
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGES
Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Knowledge of basic nutrition (e.g., healthy food choices).
Knowledge of civic and community organizations (e.g., police, AAA, Salvation Army, Red Cross), the services they provide, and their interrelationships.
Knowledge of health and wellness programs / activities (e.g., health and fitness newsletters, good health intervention classes, fitness related events, etc.).
Knowledge of various sports, games, and recreational activities suitable for individuals within various age groups.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily at Trussville Senior activities center.
Work involves the use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing.
May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
