SUMMARY: Performs manual and semi-skilled tasks in the development and maintenance of City parks and grounds; does related work as required.
This is a temporary/seasonal position anticipated to work 40 hours per week for a period of six months, which may include weekend days, depending on the final schedule.

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists with assorted park maintenance and construction activities such as constructing brick sidewalks, sidewalk extensions, underground drainage systems and soil retention walls.
Participates in special development projects such as land clearing projects, installing irrigation systems, and planting of various items (such as grass, shrubs, ground covers, trees, etc.)
Performs general groundskeeping and landscaping duties in City parks and City grounds, including mowing, hedging, watering, planting, pruning, raking, and weed removal.
Performs general maintenance duties including restroom cleaning and garbage and/or litter pick-up.
Drives to city facilities, vendors, training programs, and meetings as necessary.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License. CPR/First Aid certification within a maximum timeframe of 6 months from hire, as approved by the Parks Maintenance Manager.
Technical Skills and Abilities: Reasonable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials used in groundskeeping and landscaping. Reasonable knowledge of the care and use of groundskeeping and landscaping equipment.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to perform strenuous manual tasks and to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
EDUCATION and/or Experience: Prefer one year of experience in general landscape development and maintenance. Sufficient education to ensure the ability to read and write.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Works under the supervision of the Parks Maintenance Manager and receives direction from Parks Maintenance Technicians.

The employee must continuously carry or push/pull up to 20 pounds; frequently lift, carry or push/pull up to 40 pounds; and occasionally lift or carry up to 80 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to work at heights. The employee is continuously exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; airborne particles; working with power tools and motorized equipment; vibrating tools; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
