ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary
The Cross Connection Control Specialist in the City of Tucson’s Water Department inspects and protects the City's potable and reclaimed water systems from contamination through cross-connection; administers and enforces state and City regulations; assists and coordinates with City Departments for various investigations i.e., fire suppression systems and well-site investigations.
This position reports to the Inspection Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains Tucson Water's Cross-Connection Control and Reclaimed Water Site Inspection Program in compliance with all State and Local regulatory requirements.
- Conducts quality control testing and inspections on customer and utility owned infrastructure to ensure that all potable and reclaimed water sources remain separate and in compliance with City and State regulations to prevent contamination.
- Drives to various worksites to conduct inspections for compliance. Prepares and distributes official compliance or non-compliance notices. Conducts non-routine investigations by locating cross connections, verifying that applicable codes are met and assists in identifying existing or potential cross connection.
- Consults with internal and external stakeholders regarding compliance requirements, user agreements and educates the public regarding reclaim water usage and potable water protection. Works with internal and external stakeholders to investigate reports of tampering and theft. Corresponds with the Tucson Police Department regarding stolen backflow and facility tampering reports.
- Monitors Rainwater Harvesting and Gray Water Systems for backflow prevention compliance, provides feedback on approved assembly types and potential hazards, and maintains records of all installations.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
6 months post high school
Experience
Two (2) years of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification - Various
Preferred Qualifications
Plumbing/Pipefitting experienceCode Enforcement experience
Construction experience
Backflow assembly testing and repair experience
Experience with Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control Standards

**A Backflow Prevention Assembler Tester Certification is required at the time of application. Any application that is received and does not include an uploaded copy of the Backflow Prevention Assembler Tester Certification will be deemed incomplete and will not be considered further in this recruitment process.
