ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary
The Kitchen Manager position at the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation department provides and manages the service to the Senior Nutrition Program while maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety. This position plans and facilitates daily meals to older adults and organizes social activities for nutrition site participants.
Work is performed under the supervision of a Recreation Program Coordinator. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, schedules, and facilitates meal planning. Orders meals and necessary supplies. Coordinates with food caterers and contracted caterers to ensure participants meet basic daily nutritional requirements, which may include prepping and assisting with cooking of meals.
- Provides excellent customer service to program members and maintains professional and courteous communication with kitchen staff and senior citizens. Provides participants with social services information and referrals. Publicizes programs and services
- Maintains high standards of sanitation and safety by ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen, safe and proper food storage, and correct temperature of food. Maintains proper portion control of food to control spoilage and waste. Ensures all volunteers meet the food handler’s standards and certification program with Pima County Health Department. Maintains and provides accurate records and reports as required by the Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) and Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
- Guides and assists helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees with food service. Assists Program Coordinators with kitchen-related emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
This non-permanent position will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.
Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in 12 months.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Six (6) months post high school
Work Experience : Under one (1) year directly related experience
License :
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Food preparation and handling experience
Food Handler and CPR / First Aid certification
Application and Special Instructions
Food Handler’s and CPR / First Aid certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and must be obtained throughout the employment of this position.
