ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary
The Land Surveyor position in the City of Tucson’s Water Department manages land survey unit and personnel through effective communication, technical abilities, understanding and experience. Establishes and maintains horizontal and vertical survey control of Tucson Water Capital and Job Order Contract projects. Establishes, locates and restores property boundaries, deed lines and easements for Tucson Water projects/properties.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Construction Engineering Manager. This position exercises supervision over survey unit personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assigns survey projects to subordinates ensures accuracy and completeness of surveys by reviewing and inspecting field work and data computation, investigating, and resolving routine field problems, reviewing, and planning calculations and maintaining records.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates field surveys by reviewing work orders, plans, and legal descriptions, organizing field work activities, and researching legal and survey documents. Guides, supports, and mentors staff in executing assigned project tasks by sharing project knowledge and lessons learned.
- Supervises unit staff by approving staff schedules, conducting performance evaluations, approving timecards, approving time off requests, and assisting in the hiring of staff.
- Creates and develops standardized survey unit policies, procedures, documents, and drawings to aid in consistent project delivery.
- Produces and seals boundary surveys, legal easements, and survey control sheets.
- Coordinates and communicates with internal and external survey and real estate entities in the acquisition/abandonment of property, easements and right of way.
- Maintains survey control of Tucson Water property and infrastructure.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Indoor and outdoor work with some exposure to physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree
Experience
Three (3) years of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) - Arizona Board of Technical Registration (ABTR)
Preferred Qualifications
AutoCAD latest versionCivil 3D latest version
Proficiency in the use of Carlson Survey Software or the equivalent
