Position Specific Summary
The Law Clerk position in the City of Tucson Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division, provides support for prosecuting attorneys, including performing research and legal analysis, drafting motions, preparing appeals, writing legal documents, and assisting with case and trial preparation.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Prosecutor or a Principal Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafts responses to motions by reading motions, searching for similar responses and case law, making changes, and contacting the police department, attorneys and other agencies.
- Drafts appeals and responses by reading documents, researching files, books, computer, and making phone calls.
- Drafts legal memoranda and maintains records by reviewing pertinent case files to ensure accuracy.
- Conducts pretrials hearings, evidentiary hearings, bench trials, and jury trials, as permitted by the Supreme Court rules under the supervision of a licensed prosecutor.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
The position is full-time, in office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Juris doctorate degree (JD) OR a JD Candidate with a graduation date within six (6) months of hire
Experience : Under one (1) year of directly related experience
Application and Special Instructions
The State Bar of Arizona Attorney License must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire / prior to the completion of the probationary period and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
