Acts as a social worker or case manager to facilitate getting and remaining connected to reliable City and community resources.

The Opioid Prevention and Recovery Coordinator position at the City of Tucson’s City Manager’s Office that is a grant funded position that will conduct a comprehensive and culturally relevant community engagement and education campaign about the dangers of opioids and promote prevention strategies. This position provides client-centered, trauma-informed care coordination to bridge individuals and families with the treatment and recovery services they need. The coordinator leverages resources and partnerships with City of Tucson departments, as well as non-profit and private sector organizations, to increase impact.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Community Safety, Health & Wellness Resource Manager. This position does not supervise.
The City of Tucson’s Community Safety, Health & Wellness (CSHW) Program aims to connect individuals in need with the right services by providing a social work option to those who reach out to emergency services and other City Departments for help due to poverty, mental illness, housing instability, and other unmet basic needs. CSHW also seeks to reduce and prevent violence while elevating and building community assets at the neighborhood level. The Opioid Prevention and Recovery Coordinator position will enhance the City of Tucson’s efforts to address the increased challenges of opioid use disorder and stimulant dependence within our community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and implements care coordination and referrals that address individual needs focusing on addiction recovery and opioid related challenges. Ensures the delivery of care services for residents such as access to necessary health, housing, wellness and social services. Coordinates services across healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies to ensure residents receive comprehensive support. Conducts Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) follow-up surveys with individuals receiving care coordination and follows required documentation protocols.
- Engages with community members by organizing and facilitating educational workshops, training sessions, and outreach initiatives to raise awareness about fentanyl, opioid use disorder, and available community resources. Encourages participation in various programs such as wellness, employment, and education. Creates partnerships with various local organizations, schools, and businesses to expand the scope of resources available to residents.
- Collaborates with other departments, social service providers and external agencies to design and implement new initiatives aimed at addressing addiction and misuse of opioids. Coordinates communication and transparency by preparing data analysis, program updates, as well as hosting or attending meetings for internal and external stakeholders.
- Documents and maintains records of care coordination services, referrals provided, GPRA individual follow-up survey results, incentives, and engagement and prevention activities/workshops. Tracks progress towards project goals and prepares regular reports on program outcomes, challenges, and community engagement efforts for department leadership and grant funding agencies.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work schedule will flex and may require early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts. Indoor and outdoor work with some exposure to physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
Bachelor’s degree
Work Experience:
Two (2) years of directly related experience.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Directly related experience is defined as: Peer Support, Behavioral Health, Community Outreach
License/Certifications:
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License – Arizona Department of Transportation – Motor Vehicle Division
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
National Certified Peer Specialist (NCPS) – Various issuers
Fluent in written and spoken Spanish
Lived experience of addiction/recovery
Demonstrated experience in community organizing and/or engagement
Demonstrated outreach experience
Demonstrated collaborative and team leadership skills
Demonstrated experience in event coordination with multiple stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs

Full Hourly Range: $21.96 - 37.88 USD
