Position Specific Summary
The Management Coordinator position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department coordinates, manages, and implements strategic communications that convey the utility’s goals and initiatives to a variety of stakeholders. The position ensures consistent messaging and branding in support of utility transparency, increases trust, and amplifies positive public perception of the City of Tucson and Tucson Water to drive public support and policy initiatives.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Affairs Water Administrator. This position exercises supervision over the Tucson Water Public Information Office personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees, monitors, and regulates direct report performance. Directs program budget and financials. Coordinates with internal teams to collect, review, and evaluate data to ensure programmatic compliance and key performance indicators (KPIs) . Facilitates consistent messaging, data management, and metrics measurement across all communications channels and ensures compliance with regulatory agency requirements for public notifications.
Develops comprehensive communications strategies that align with the City of Tucson and Tucson Water's strategic goals through consistent, effective, and meaningful messaging. Develops and oversees campaigns, public engagement, and identifies and secures opportunities to measure and address public sentiment. supports City of Tucson and Tucson Water policy initiatives. reports data and analytics to measure effectiveness.
Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, the authorizing public, community leaders, and industry partners. Oversees public outreach programming including public meetings, town halls, and other speaking engagements and events
Develops and maintains strategic relationships with media professionals across communications channels. oversees the Tucson Water Speakers Bureau. Provides strategy and guidance for media coverage, including crisis communications. Monitors media coverage and provides regular reporting to senior leadership and staff. Develops and distributes media advisories, press releases, newsletters, and social media content.
Innovates and implements Tucson Water’s internal and external digital media communications strategy across various platforms, including website development, social media, and targeted marketing campaigns. Stays informed about industry trends and best practices to continually improve Tucson Water’s public presence and staff engagement.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Schedule may include nights, weekends, travel, and on-call assignments as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree
Experience
Five (5) years of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License / Certifications
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree or higher.
Minimum of five (5) years of strategic communications experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the water or energy sectors.
Bilingual, Spanish.
