Position Specific Summary:
The Water Services Supervisor position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department, within the Water Quality & Operations Division is responsible for the daily operations for Water Quality & Pressure Concerns unit. This position coaches, counsels, and leads employee training, ensuring effective responses to customer inquiries and field investigations, and compliance with department goals, policies and procedures.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Program Superintendent. This position exercises supervision over Water Quality Analysts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages, coordinates, and prioritizes workload for staff, reviewing work performed and providing guidance as needed. Assigns tasks, schedules, routes, and closes water quality investigation work orders in Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Assists with personnel actions, including performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Maintains employee schedules, timekeeping approvals, and corrections in Kronos. Facilitates team meetings and manages staff training schedules.
- Researches solutions and responds to escalated customer inquiries, including inquiries from staff, management, and mayor and council. Ensures compliance with safety protocols and maintains communication with employees to promote positive morale and welfare. Remains accessible to team during daily operations.
- Reviews and evaluates customer calls and field investigations, providing training, coaching, feedback, and learning opportunities to staff. Reviews daily statistics, offers guidance and resources for growth, and performs quality assurance on customer calls and field investigations to ensure adherence to Tucson Water policies and practices. Updates job aids and ensures staff continuously learn and keep up to date with water quality issues through training opportunities such as conferences, webinars, and workshops.
- Performs both office and field functions of Water Quality Analysts and provides ongoing support and back up as needed. Answers, responds and documents phone and email inquiries to assist with high call volume. Prepares and sends documents and reports related to water quality data and pressure concerns to executive leadership. Performs field investigations regarding water pressure and quality inquiries, resolving issues or referring to other divisions to further investigation of the system infrastructure.
- Runs and reviews water quality and pressure reports to identify trends in the water distribution system and suggests improvements to data capture in the CMMS. Identifies issues in the water distribution system and suggests changes based on system learning.
- Assists with special projects and assignments, such as website involvement and water quality sampling.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions:
This position is a primary driver and will be expected to operate a city vehicle. Must have open availability. Must be able to work in various working/climate conditions. Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
6 months post high school
Experience
Four (4) years of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
