Purpose Of Position
To safely transport equipment and materials to and from job sites. Perform minor maintenance on trucks and equipment. Perform regular labor duties and use a variety of hand tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of water and sewer mains.
Essential Functions
- Drive and operate dump truck, haul truck, and trailer.
- Operate loader, backhoe, and forklift in loading and unloading materials and equipment.
- Keep truck clean and in safe operating condition.
- Assist crews in repairs, maintenance, and installation of water and sewer systems.
- Assist crews with manual labor as needed.
- Cut concrete, ductile iron pipe, PVC pipe, clay pipe and cast iron pipe.
- Pour and finish concrete.
- Lay, haul and finish asphalt.
- Operate jackhammer, power tools, hand tools, etc.
- Respond to emergency calls after normal working hours if needed.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100-lbs. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel for short periods of time.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience : Must have a High School diploma or GED. Must have a minimum of six (6) months of relevant experience. Must have a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's license, with a clear driving record. Must be able to operate dump trucks and light duty trucks,
including 1-ton, ¾-ton, and ½-ton varieties and various trailers. Must be available for rotating on-call duty, which may include weekends and holidays. Must to be able to respond to calls within 20-minutes.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
