What are the responsibilities and job description for the Circulation Technician Substitute position at City of Tyler?
• Charges books and other library materials in and out at the circulation desk and assists patrons in using the automated self-check stations
• Maintains the exemplary customer service reputation of the library with customer driven and empathetic customer service to all patrons.
• Discharge incoming library materials using an automated system and inspects them for damages
• Register new library users.
• Change receipt printer ribbons and paper.
• Bill user accounts as directed by library policies
• Process monetary payments towards prints, late fees, lost materials, donations, and other library services.
• Record and tabulate statistics.
• Maintains a bi-annual inventory of library materials
• Performs various assignments as needed including special projects and computer data entry.
• Assist patrons in the use of library facilities; provide basic direction, information, and reader advisory services
• Check circulating materials in and out using the library’s computerized system following established procedures.
• Answers, in person and over the phone, patron inquiries regarding the availability of library materials through searching of the library systems and locating library materials.
• Answers telephone and transfers calls as needed
• Assisting library patrons in the use of technology and electronic resources.
• Process overdue materials and notices; collect and record fines for overdue, lost materials and damages
• Shelve and organize library materials
• Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience: Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must have over one (1) year of related experience. Must be able to operate a computer, telephone with intercom system, shelving and book drop carts, and vehicle. A valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License, with clear driving record is preferred.
NEEDED SKILLS
• Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively, patiently, and courteously in English with patrons, staff, and supervisors, in person, using a telephone and email.
• Must be able to enter information into library software for card applications in a timely manner.
• Must have ability to project a positive and helpful attitude and have the ability to be tactful, courteous, and empathetic.
•Must be skilled in the use of common computer technologies, including Email, the Internet, Windows, spreadsheets, current operating systems, mobile applications, and data entry.
•Must have ability to listen, understand, and interpret information received from employees and customers.
•Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees, and the public and have ability to remain flexible and positive in an environment of continuous change.
• Must have ability to work a variable schedule, to include evenings and weekends.
• Must know how to alphabetize and know Dewey Decimal System and be able to arrange items in sequence.
• Must be able to stand, walk, sit up to 3 hours daily; lift and carry 10 lbs.; push and pull 50 lbs.; climb, stoop, bend, crouch; reach books from shelves; and handle books, cards, coins, and currency.
