What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator II (Water Distribution) position at City of Tyler?
Works on construction crew. Performs supervisory duties in absence of crew leader. Work schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., nights and weekends as required, as well as being on-call.
- Integral member of a 5 man construction crew.
- Operate haul rig with trailer loaded with wide loads.
- Operate medium to large-sized equipment including; backhoe, loader, bulldozer, track hoe, to install or repair underground utilities and drive/load a dump truck.
- At times will be performing manual labor to help install/repair water and sewer systems.
- Operate bull dozer to clear utility right of ways (ROW) and demo condemned structures.
- Operate backhoe or track hoe excavating ditch lines for sewer or water utility construction/repair.
- Operate, inspect and load equipment/materials in a safe manner on a trailer.
- Inspect and drive a haul truck with an oversized load.
- Work requires being onsite and operating city vehicles to various locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Needed Skills:
- Must be able to understand and follow directions and instructions.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time while operating equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry 80-lbs.
- Must be able to safely climb onto equipment, balance, stoop, bend and crouch.
- Must be able to use and operate various hand tools; shovels, rakes, saws, hammers, ratchets and sockets.
- Must be able to operate various gas powered saws, chain saws, hydraulic or electric pumps.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees.
- Must be able to operate equipment in/around other underground utilities in a safe manner.
- Must be able to respond within 30 minutes while on-call.
Education and Experience: Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must have at least six (6) months of college, technical or vocational education. Must have at least three (3) years of job-related experience. Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class “A” with air brake endorsement and clear driving record. Must possess a TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution license OR can obtain with in one (1) year of employment.
