What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator II (WWC) position at City of Tyler?
Operate medium to large-sized equipment including; backhoe, loader, bulldozer, track hoe, to install or repair underground utilities and drive/load a dump truck. Operate haul rig with trailer loaded with wide loads. Act as backup crew leader during his absence and supervise 3-5 crew members. Work schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., nights and weekends as required, on-call every third week.
- Integral member of a 5 man construction crew.
- At times will be performing manual labor to help install/repair water and sewer systems.
- Drive and load dump trucks as required.
- Operate bull dozer to clear utility right of ways (ROW) and demo condemned structures.
- Operate backhoe or track hoe excavating ditch lines for sewer or water utility construction/repair.
- Must be able to operate equipment in/around other underground utilities in a safe manner.
- Operate, inspect and load equipment/materials in a safe manner on a trailer.
- Inspect and drive a haul truck with an oversized load.
- Must be able to understand and follow directions and instructions.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time while operating equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry 80-lbs.
- Must be able to safely climb onto equipment, balance, stoop, bend and crouch.
- Must be able to use and operate various hand tools; shovels, rakes, saws, hammers, ratchets and sockets.
- Must be able to operate various gas powered saws, chain saws, hydraulic or electric pumps.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
