"SEASONAL POSITIONS ONLY – TEN (10) VACANCIES"
Provides protection to patrons of public swimming pools; assists in cleaning pool and related facilities; and perform other duties as required.
- Maintain constant alert watch over patrons using City swimming pools.
- Provides immediate assistance to patrons when required.
- Enforces safety and participation rules applicable to pool area to prevent occurrence of accidents and dangerous situations.
- Maintains discipline among patrons.
- Assists in cleaning pool, pool area, and facility.
- Must have knowledge of general rules of water safety.
- Ability to learn and effectively apply City rules and regulations for pool use.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and patrons.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Must be currently certified in American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Training. Ellis certification may be used in place of Red Cross. Current WSI certification preferred but not required. Must be available to work any shift upon date of hire until the pool closes for the season. Open swim pool hours; Thursdays 12:00 - 8:30 pm, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays 12:30 - 6:30 pm, and Saturdays 9:30 am - 6:30 pm.
Employees who complete at least 275 hours of work during the pool season will be eligible for full reimbursement of their certification costs. Employees who complete at least 240 hours of work during the pool season will be eligible for a partial reimbursement of their certification costs.
The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.

No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
