Supervisor: Crew Leader and Foreman
- Assists with the repairs of catch basins, inlet boxes, curbs, gutters, valleys, and other stormwater systems at request interests to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
- Operates/utilizes a variety of equipment or tools associated with activities, which may include a truck, hand tools, and cement.
- Prepares surfaces prior to beginning work, mark guidelines to lay out work, finish out concrete in segments to the concrete poured is level.
- Maintains a safe work area, including; places and removes cones, barricades, warning devises, and/or directs traffic at work sites to ensure safety of work crew and public; cleans up work sites upon completion of job; picks up all tools and equipment; secures the jobsite if returning later;
washes vehicles and equipment as needed; cleans up shop areas; maintains tools and equipment in safe and operable conditions; safe use, mix, and dilute all chemicals according to direction labels; and when operating motor vehicles, observe safe driving principles and practices.
- Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or classes as directed.
- Performs other duties and functions as assigned, required, or directed, or which are necessary, readily apparent, or related to other duties and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of highways, roads curbs and gutter. Safely and correctly apply road construction and maintenance techniques. Safely operate light and heavy road maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of how to safely operate, but not limited to gas-powered jackhammers, tampers, and saws, 1- or 2-ton trucks, off-road vehicles, industrial mowers, skid steers, chain saws, or woodchippers.
- Ability to adhere to the personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individually provided PPE in a functional condition. All uniforms and PPE should be clean and equipped when scheduled to work.
- Attend shifts in accordance with company policy. This position is subject to responding to emergencies after normal working hours. Occasional overtime is required. Ability to be flexible with last-minute schedule changes, location changes, and shift time changes.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and officials, representatives of outside agencies, and the general public. Communicate effectively through both verbal and written means, including conveying and following instructions and providing information to the public.
- Knowledge and adherence to all applicable State and Federal laws, local ordinances, City and Departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Knowledge and adherence to the Texas Motor Vehicle Code and other codes, laws, and statutes relating to the given position.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Suite, Database management, and web applications.
- Endeavors to continuously improve the services provided to the citizens of Tyler.
Environmental factors:This is an essential department. All staff will be called to SERVE during storms, catastrophes, emergencies, or as otherwise needed. The physical ability to work under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Working within confined spaces can be necessary for some tasks. Working in the proximity of light and heavy machinery.
The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
