What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Operator II (Water Plant) position at City of Tyler?
To operate and maintain a water treatment plant in accordance with (TCEQ) Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations to supply water to the citizens of Tyler. This position reports to the Plant Operator III and Chief Operator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform plant operations; operate pumps, motors, chemical feed pumps, etc. manually and or via SCADA
2. Perform lab analysis, interrupt results, make correct chemical adjustments based on results
3. Perform data entry into computer
4. Perform or assist with plant maintenance, basin, or clarifier cleaning
5. Perform or assist with preventative plant maintenance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Answer phones, dispatch emergency call, customer complaints, conduct facility tours, etc.
2. Perform or assist with major maintenance of pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, etc.
3. Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
1. Must be able to work any assigned shift; days, evenings, nights, swing, rotating, on-call, etc.
2. Must possess the ability to perform water treatment tasks in accordance with TCEQ regulations.
3. Must possess the ability to follow all safety procedures in and around hazardous chemicals.
4. Must possess the ability to perform basic math as it relates to water treatment.
5. Must be able to use a computer to retrieve and enter data.
6. Must be able to perform plant operations using SCADA system.
7. Must be able to read, write, speak, and effectively communicate using the English language.
8. Must be able to receive training and direction in accordance with policies and regulations.
9. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
10. Must be able to stand, walk, sit 1-8 hours daily. Ability to push, pull, carry up to 50 pounds; carry
20 pounds, lift 100 pounds; occasionally climb, stoop, and bend 1 hour daily.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred in the field of chemistry, biology or a related field but not required
Must possess a current TCEQ Class C Surface Water license and maintain license in good standing. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License with a clear driving record.
