PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Ability to attend functions and meetings in buildings and at other sites. Must be able to fight fires and perform strenuous physical tasks such as bending, stooping, crawling, ladder climbing and lifting of heavy objects while engaged in firefighting or other rescue activities. Employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, communicable diseases and hazardous fumes and chemicals while engaged in firefighting/EMS or other rescue activities.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Ability to read and review such items as professional journals, publications and legislative data. Must be able to compute formulas for determining water pressure. Ability to write such items as reports and memos. Skill in the operation of various fire and emergency medical apparatus as well as basic office equipment.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent, TCFP Basic Firefighter Certification and TDSHS Emergency Medical Technician Certification required. Must complete necessary training required to achieve TDSHS Paramedic Certification as required. Must possess a Class B Texas DL or obtain within first six months of employment.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
- Rescues persons trapped in cars, burning buildings and other places. Performs hazard mitigation as needed.
- Performs all duties related to the delivery of pre-hospital emergency medical services including care of the sick and injured, scene stabilization and transport of sick and injured persons.
- Performs temporary assignment duties of a Driver/Engineer which includes safely transporting fire personnel to and from emergency scenes and operating fire department apparatus at the emergency scene.
- Performs temporary assigned duties of a Fire Lieutenant which includes directing a crew in firefighting, rescue, hazardous materials incidents, treatment of the sick and injured, etc.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of MICU and assigned equipment. Performs maintenance and maintains cleanliness of the fire station.
- Attends and completes all fire and EMS related training as required.
- Performs all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hoses, carrying and setting up ladders, and directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicles and other objects.Ventilates buildings and conducts salvage operations.
- Maintains records of work performed and submits reports or invoices to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 19 by written exam date.
- Must possess a Class B Texas Drivers License or obtain within first 6 months of hire.
- TCFP Basic Structural Fire Certification required.
- TDSHS Certified as an EMT or Paramedic. IFSAC Fire and National Registry EMS certifications will be recognized. Paramedic preferred. Paramedics will receive an additional 5 points on written exam.
- Copies of all certifications must be submitted with application or by closing date to Human Resource Department (attachments with application submissions are acceptable).
- Must pass a written exam, physical ability test, medical physical, psychological exam, polygraph, and drug test.
