 Applicants will be fingerprinted, and records checked at both State and Federal levels.
 Applicants must not have a record of conviction of a serious offense, or numerous convictions of minor offenses.
 Credit rating, if established, must be satisfactory.

 Step 2: Written Examinations: Qualified applicants will be required to successfully pass the written POST Pellet B Examination with a T-score of 44 or higher. Qualified applicants will be invited via email to the written examination.  Step 3: Oral Interview: Qualified applicants will be required to complete oral interviews as part of the recruitment process.

 Step 4: Background Investigation and Administrative Interviews: Qualified applicants will undergo a complete, comprehensive, POST approved Background Investigation including a Polygraph Examination. Upon completion of the background investigation, applicants may be invited to an Administrative Interview.

 Step 5: Conditional Job Offer: Following the successful completion of all prior steps, candidates may be made a conditional job offer. Job offers are conditional upon the successful completion of a medical examination.

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees also work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances, and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. The principal duties of this class are performed in a police station environment with exposure to criminal offenders, mentally ill individuals, and persons potentially infected with communicable diseases.

- Learns, understands, and applies Department and mandated applicable laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
- Provides technical assistance to the public at the front desk and over the telephone; gathers information and records complaints; directs callers to other departmental personnel or other agencies as appropriate; learns and operates police radio communications equipment.
- Prepares and processes a variety of reports, forms, citations, applications, and permits; types, compiles, and tabulates basic statistical and financial data; tracks status of cases and warrants; maintains related files and records.
- Assists with various divisions within the police department, crime prevention, and community relations programs.
- Assists with vehicle release duties such as regular and thirty (30) day tows, tow hearings, vehicle repossessions, property releases, and vehicle auctions.
- Releases records as appropriate such as criminal reports, crash reports, and calls for service.
- Performs California Law Enforcement Telecommunication Systems (CLETS) data entry duties; enters missing/found persons, impounded/stored/repossessed vehicles, and lost and found property into the appropriate records system.
- Maintains contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserves good relationships with the general public; takes an active role in areas of public education relative to crime and crime prevention.
- Acts as a court liaison, delivers criminal reports to the District Attorney's Office for review, and collects court documents related to the filing or rejection of criminal cases.
- Assists with crime prevention and community relations programs and in the Investigation Division, as assigned.
- Observes and complies with all City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- Experience as a Police Explorer highly desirable.
