Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our Upper Arlington Public Library Customer Service team providing friendly, high quality customer service at our busy Tremont location. You will be responsible for providing customer assistance in person and via phone, checking library materials in and out, answering questions about library accounts and directing customer questions to the appropriate departments. This position does involve extended periods of walking and standing including delivering items to our patrons through our curbside service and assisting patrons with locating and checking out items.
Job Summary :
Participates in the operation of a full-service circulation desk. Responds to patron questions regarding library services, library materials, and directs patrons to appropriate departments as needed.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions :
- Provides patron assistance with circulation of materials including checking in and checking out items and retrieving held items.
- Responds to general questions, and specific questions relating to library accounts, including collections.
- Monitors and provides guidance to patrons in the use of the library facilities and services. Instructs patrons on the use of the computer-based library catalog.
- Responds to basic questions on the availability and location of library materials. May place holds on patrons' behalf. Contacts patrons regarding circulation and materials issues.
- Checks out and delivers items for curbside patrons.
- Retrieves and processes items that have been requested to be held at current location or sent to other locations for pickup.
- Sorts, organizes, and shelves library materials.
- Shelf-reads assigned areas and re-shelves out of place items.
- Empties book drops and organizes materials.
- Maintains reserved items.
- Assists in maintaining and refilling displays.
- Identifies materials in need of repair / replacement and takes appropriate action.
- Conducts item searches as assigned.
- Serves as a Passport Agent as assigned.
- Trains new staff members as assigned.
- Serves on library committees as assigned.
- Follows library safety and emergency procedures.
- Reports maintenance and safety issues to supervisor and / or Facilities personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The Library provides vacation and sick leave benefits as well as paid holidays for part-time staff.
All staff members are participants in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS). The Library contributes 14% of each staff member's salary to OPERS and each staff member contributes 10% (in lieu of a social security payroll deduction). Additionally, staff members can contribute to their retirement through the Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation Program.
