JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
As part of the Public Service team, you will report directly into the Electrical Supervisor, this position installs, repairs and maintains city buildings and facility electrical systems, traffic signals, rectangular rapid flashing beacons, school flashers, street and site lighting and performs traffic studies for the safety of the public.

Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : For purposes of 42 USC 12101 :
- Performs electrical installations and maintenance of city buildings and facilities (e.g.; installing, maintaining, replacing electrical services, panel boards, transformers, disconnects, motor starters, contactors, relays, fuses, overcurrent devices, dimmer panels, motors, compressors, vacuums, conduit and raceways, install wiring, devices, light fixtures, time clocks, photo electric controls, temperature sensors, temperature monitors, occupancy sensors, heat tape, electric heaters, fans, IT network cabling; performs thermal imaging of all electrical components on a yearly basis and maintains a database of all reports)
- Conducts traffic signal upgrades (e.g., builds new signalized intersections, forms, pours and finishes concrete, installs vehicle detection induction loops, video detection, radar detection, emergency vehicle preemption, pedestrian push buttons, vehicular and pedestrian signals, traffic control cabinets, UPS cabinets, storage batteries, fiber optic, radio, GPS and wireless communication, antennas and road side units. Maintains traffic signals (e.g.; programs / maintains / replaces traffic signal controllers, conflict monitors and malfunction management units. Maintains / replaces traffic cabinets, controllers, bus interface units, bus relays, flash relays, load switches, pedestrian push buttons, vehicular and pedestrian signals & heads, UPS controllers and batteries, service entrance raceways, disconnects, generator transfer switches, overhead signage and hardware and painting; completes yearly scheduled preventative maintenance program as assigned.
- Conducts traffic studies as directed (e.g.; programs, builds, maintains GMR devices, radar speed signs and traffic analysis cameras;installs equipment; retrieves data, acts as a liaison between the public and the Public Service Department).
- Provides onsite construction inspection of traffic signal, street and site lighting and building electrical capital improvement project and infrastructure maintenance projects as assigned (e.g.; inspects work being performed by contractors, records daily events noting progress, work items completed and any discrepancies; reviews pay applications; prepares change orders; serves as a liaison between the public and the contractor; responds to public questions and concerns).
- Conducts street and site lighting upgrades by converting older technologies to LED. Maintains lighting systems (e.g.; replacing electrical services, disconnects, control cabinets, transformers, contactors, time clocks, photo electric controls, poles, fixtures ballasts, lamps, drivers, LED arrays, lenses, wire, fuses and terminations).
- Digitizes and maintains database of blueprints for all City buildings, street / site lighting systems and traffic signals.
- Supports the Engineering Division with underground utility locating.
- Supports the IT Department with infrastructure installations (e.g.; installing network cabling, access points, switch gear, patch panels and UPSs)
- Supports the Public Works Division with snow / ice removal and storm damage clean up as needed.
- Maintains 24 / 7 / 365 emergency on call status for all of the above.
- Maintains licenses and certifications as required.
- Meets all job safety requirements including use of PPE and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Retrieves pertinent manufacturer's data for storage in a departmental MSDS database.

Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :
Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or four-year technical school and (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : (
Valid State of Ohio Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy; valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A desired
